Fresh Picked Craziness

This, my friends, is Diesel. Now Diesel doesn't look too bright from this picture, does he. We have four dogs, and each one exhibits some sort of retardedness. Diesel's is the trait of sitting like a frog for no apparent reason. Maybe it has to do with the fact that he is 1/2 Lab and 1/2 German Shorthair pointer.

We got Diesel in October of 2007, so he is still just a pup. He's been a pretty good addition to the family after our beloved dog, Buddy, died late last summer at the age of 13. The transition with the other dogs was good with only a few incidents with our older female dog Alexis. By the way, Diesel is the only male among 3 women. Poor guy.

Don't let his amphibian positions fool you though.

He is very, very smart.

He is able to pick up tricks like nobody's business. From the time we brought him home, we started to train him and he can sit, stay (well, pretty well), come (when he wants), crawl, wait until told it is ok (like to get a treat) and as you see in this photo, give high fives. He also has the ability to fart at the strangest times. "Diesel Sit"(pfftt) ..."Diesel, you're bad"(pffft). Very smart indeed.

So what is the problem then? POTTY TRAINING!

I swear to you this morning I said to my husband that the "frog dog" hadn't peed on the floor in 5 days! FIVE DAYS! WOOHOO!

What does he do about 2 hours later? Pees on my coat rack!

Grrr.... you see where he is now - he knows I'm not too happy with him and when momma ain't happy, nobody is happy!

Damn dog!
